Debuts for Toryumon as a 2nd term student. 2 months after debuting, wins the 2nd Young Dragons Cup tournament.
Comes to Japan for the first Toryumon Japan tour. Becomes the surfer that was his first major character.
Grows in rank, making several attempts on the NWA Middle and Welterweight titles.
Turns heel at the end of the year, joining M2K. Begins losing hair.
Takes dancing lessons to help M2K recruit Magnum TOKYO as a leader. Faces SUWA in a hair vs. hair match that spawned the infamous "HAGE" promo, that gave Genki his future character. As his heel character develops, he phases out the surfer elements. When the original M2K ended in September, he joined the first incarnation of Do FIXER. Continues losing hair.
El Numero Uno 2003 sees the biggest break of his career. A stunning run of upsets on the final night lead to the breakthrough for the H-A-G-E character, and the development of the Backslide where God Dwells. Actually loses all of his hair by losing the 2nd 5 way cage match. Surprisingly some of it grows back.
Helps recruit Naoki Tanisaki to Toryumon Japan from Toryumon X, briefly reviving the surfer character. Loses more hair.
Holds the Open the Triangle Gate with Do FIXER on several occassions.
Begins to have tension with other DF members at the end of the year, particularly Maraha Isappa! tag partner Ryo Saito.
Betrays Ryo, turns heel to join Muscle Outlaw'z. This leads to another character reinvention, to his current form. Wins the Open the Brave Gate. At the end of the year, begins to become a bit of kleptomaniac. First stealing the gakuran pants from Tozawajuku members, then Anthony W. Moris' ring entrance costume.

Genki has remained firmly on the heel side of MO'z all year, and naturally followed to Real Hazard.
