Talented, influential, controversial, frustrating, charismatic. There are a lot of words that could describe Magnum TOKYO. Magu was a first term Toryumon original. Along with CIMA, Fuji, and SUWA, he was a part of the first class to train in the Ultimo Dragon Gym. Appropriately, his debut was vs. CIMA. The 2 would go on to be the most recognizable faces for both Toryumon and Dragon Gate. Magu first gained some notoriety in WCW of all places. Competing there as Tokyo Magnum, he joined up with Disco Inferno and Alex Wright to form the Dancing Fools team. It was there, that he first began to develop his stripper character. Upon landing in Japan, he was Mr. Viagra. He would perform an elaborate dance on the way to the ring, where fans could stuff yen into his tights. As the years would go on, the dance aspect of his character would expand, and became one of the Toryumon trademarks. Magu was the ace of the upstart company. He suffered an injury in early 2000 that kept him out of action for several months. While he was gone, the original M2K formed, and went to the forefront in their feud with Crazy MAX. CIMA and Mochizuki rose to the top line ranks in this time. Magu re-invented himself for the first time upon his return. His injury forced him to tone down his style. He incorporated more strikes to his arsenal and again took his spot as ace, this time with CIMA and Mochi supporting him. By 2002 the Viagra character had grown stale. CIMA, Mochi, and T2P ace Milano Collection were now garnering most of the attention. Magu again rose to occasion. He turned heel and took over as leader of M2K. Now known as Mr. Egoist, Magu began to show what many people thought was his true self. Cocky, selfish, and of course egotistical. Magu really flourished with the formation of Do FIXER at the end of the year. A full blown super dance unit. The other members were simply back up dancers to the Mr. Egoist show. He rose to the highest level one more time, capturing the UDG title from CIMA in 2003. He began to slow down into 2004. He lost the title to SUWA, and then took an extended leave of absence. Toryumon became Dragon Gate during this time, which Magnum probably had a lot omre to do with than was ever said. He never really took back his ace position. Instead, he chose to stay in the background, but always a threat. He stepped away from Do FIXER, giving the reigns to the fast rising Ryo Saito. Then, he produced the debut of the man who will surely assume his role in Dragon Gate, BxB Hulk. Magu always had a strange relationship with Geni'chiro Tenryu. The legend chose Magnum as his partner for no particular reason, back in 1999. Tenryu arrived in DG in May 2005. He and Magu would start the Ryuukon 10 Match Series. This series brought about the final stage of Mr. Egoist. The Revolutionist. Now wearing long tights, and no longer the physical marvel he was in his young days, Magu adapted to the Tenryu fight style. Departing completely from Do FIXER and Pos HEARTS, Magu started what would end up being a project with no end, Renaissance. The name was fitting. It put together the older members of the roster, Magnum, Mochizuki, Fujii, and Kanda. The group was to be their renaissance, helping them keep up with the constantly evolving scene on the DG main stage. It met with an untimely end, though. The same night as the formal coming out for the group, Magnum suffered a severe eye injury. The remaining members kept on the unit name, and finished off the Ryuukon series. The end of 2006 saw both come to an end. It was also the final time we would see Magnum in the Dragon Gate ring. Many rumors went around, as his absence went much longer than initially expected. His condition worsened every time it would seem to improve, and eventually lead to talk of retirement. A position in the front office was discussed, but Magnum instead chose to resign. This was made official on April 9th, 2007. The Magnum TOKYO era for Toryumon and Dragon Gate came to an end. Magu himself said he was going to reset everything from here. He will remain Mr. Egoist until the end, and is looking at his future as a blank page.
